| These pictures are of the Tomnaverie stone circle which was erected around 2500 BC. The full Moon would have been visible between the two tall pillars in picture 5 around midsummer at the limit of its movement across the sky which happens once every generation |

| These pictures are of the Ring of Brogar, a large and exact stone circle on the Orkney Islands. it was built between 2500 and 2000 BC. It is not yet certain what purpose this giant stone circle had. |

| The Stones of Stenness, these are what remains of a circle of giant stones erected between 3000 and 2500 BC. The Ring of Brogar is only about 1 mile from this circle but was built much later. Just as with the Ring of Brogar we have no idea what the purpose of these stones was. |
